In the Wind

In the wind so quiet
The aspens give a thought
A gravestone bears the names
Of those forever caught
In the passing of the years
In the fury of the storm
Who lived and laughed and died
'For I was ever born
Some folks were time distorted
Some had no time at all
A mother and her baby
Who heard that distant call
And those whose names are missing
And no one knows their kin
Erased by time and weather
By sun, neglect, and sin
Children lost in bearing
A husband lost his wife
And through the eyes of gravestones
They mock us, and our life
